COVENTRY HEALTH CARE OF FLORIDA PROVIDES FUNDING TO NONPROFITS FOR OUTDOOR PLAY AREASCoventry Health Care of Florida announced today that the company is accepting applications for the Coventry Play for Better Health program. In an effort to encourage physical activity among children, Play for Better Health is a new community outreach initiative that provides nonprofit organizations, that serve kids, with outdoor play spaces. HEROES" Unite!"  Youth Invited to Join the Movement to Fight Childhood Obesity 
MINNETONKA, Minn. (Aug. 3, 2011) – Young people across the country once again have the opportunity to become “Health Heroes” by learning about childhood obesity, designing programs to address it and implementing the programs in their communities. Kicking off the fourth year, Youth Service America and UnitedHealthcare are calling all “Health Heroes” to apply for 2012 UnitedHealth HEROES grants. GAINESVILLE, Fla., April 19, 2011Each morning, students from 17 Alachua County schools arrive to school early with one simple mission: how many miles can I run before school today? AvMed Health Plans today joined Alachua County Superintendent Dr. Dan Boyd and the students and staff from Hidden Oak Elementary to celebrate the District’s many successes through Fitzness International’s Morning Mile program. Since the start of the 2010-2011 school year, students participating in the program have logged more than 45,000 total miles, leaving them ready to start the school day focused on their academic performance. AETNA ANNOUNCES COVERAGE FOR H1N1 VACCINATIONS --Aetna Will Cover Administration of the H1N1 Vaccine for All Health Plan Members -- HARTFORD, Conn., September 28, 2009 -- Aetna (NYSE; AET) announced today that it will provide first-dollar coverage for the administration of the H1N1 flu vaccine for all of its fully-insured health plan members, and for all members of self-funded plans unless directed otherwise by the plan sponsor.  Aetna is offering this coverage even in instances where members' plans do not include coverage for preventive care or have limits on such coverage.  Co-pays, co-insurance and deductibles will not apply for the administration of the vaccine. Aetna Shows Commitment to Patient Safety with 70 Percent Reduction in Refills of Duplicate Statin Prescriptions -- Thursday June 12, 10:50 am ET -- Successful Patient Safety Program Expands to Four Widely Used Drug Classes
HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aetna (NYSE:AET - News) today announced the results of an internal study which show a 70 percent reduction in prescription duplication for members enrolled in its therapeutic duplication program. Launched in January 2007, the program is available to fully insured members taking the cholesterol-lowering statin class of medications and was designed to improve patient safety and reduce risk of serious side effects. Health First Health Plans invited network to participate in the national Heart/Stroke Recognition Program (HSRP). Recognition is awarded to physicians who demonstrate that they meet certain thresholds of delivering key screenings and helping patients manage cardiovascular disease.  At project start, there were 54 Florida physicians with this status on the NCQA website.  There are now 91, with Brevard County extremely well represented.

Vista Health Plan,
in recognition of Florida's significant elderly population who are especially vulnerable to the effects and complications of the flu, implemented a successful initiative including a taskforce with the intent of early identification of members who meet recommendations for flu vaccine, and a process to assure availability and delivery of an adequate supply of vaccine to our providers.

Aetna received accreditation in pharmacy benefit management (PBM) and drug therapy management (DTM) from URAC -- the independent non-profit organization that promotes health care quality through its accreditation and certification programs.  Aetna also celebrated National Children's Dental Health Month by hosting and staffing a series of events around the country including three in the Jacksonville Florida Area.  All three events provided dental screening, cleaning and treatment as well as puppet shows and videos.

 United Healthcare,  along with the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society, United Healthcare announced an initiative that will improve patient care by expanding the collection and use of clinical outcomes data for heart rhythm devices by cardiac care facilities, cardiac surgeons, cardiologists and other health care professionals.

Humana launched an integrated Health-and-Wellness Program for Health Plan Members.  The program includes wellness components, with “health coaching”; integrated medical-behavioral health care management; and an employee assistance/work-life program.
